Elsewhere, the builder who had been subcontracted to remodel the stables of the stately home in which Lisa’s wedding was taking place was preparing to tuck into a well-earned packed lunch. Being on the other side of the estate from the wedding party, he was unaware that the ham he had in his sandwiches was roughly the same colour as the centre of the chicken breasts currently being served to the wedding guests and would remain unaware of the events unfolding in the dining hall even as several aunts hurled and retched into the dahlias.

This is fantastic.

National Sleepy Head Day (Finnish: unikeonpäivä) is celebrated in Finland on July 27 every year. Traditionally on this day, the last person in the house (also dubbed as the ‘laziest’) to wake up is woken up using water, either by being thrown into a lake or the sea, or by having water thrown on them.^[1] It is based on the story of the Saints of Ephesus who slept in a cave for some 200 years during the Middle Ages whilst hiding from persecution by Decius, the Roman Emperor at the time.^[2]

In the city of Naantali, a Finnish celebrity is chosen every year to be thrown in the sea from the city’s port at 7 a.m. The identity of the sleeper is kept secret until the event. People who are chosen have usually done something to the benefit of the city. Every city mayor has thus far been thrown to the sea at least once, but other sleepers have included the president Tarja Halonen’s husband, Dr Pentti Arajärvi, the CEO of Neste Oil Risto Rinne, along with many writers, artists and politicians. The celebrations continue into the evening in Naantali and include activities for people of every age.

Everything from Japan is simultaneously adorable and inexplicable, at least the bits that aren't creepy as hell.

There were these strange bean things with so-cute little faces at Comic-Con, but they didn’t seem to be for sale, and we weren’t sure why they existed.

Turns out their function is to show up in people’s food and dispense trivia. Who knew?

I almost can’t stop playing with this thing long enough to post this. Y’know how when you translate anything into Japanese and then back again it gets pretty fucked up? Well, now you don’t have to do it manually.

“Who wants to go for ice cream?” is a pretty good one. If you want to break the thing beyond recognition, try “weasels ripped my flesh.”

So much fun!

Don’t feel the need to skip this if you haven’t seen the movie. It’s funny either way, and it’s not like this is a movie experience that is going to be ruined for you by spoilers. The only way to ruin Transformers 2 for yourself is to develop very particular cataracts that render you unable to see Megan Fox’s cleavage, or to go into the movie expecting it to be any good.

Megan Fox’s cleavage isn’t even my favorite cleavage, if we’re getting tangential - Angelina Jolie’s wetsuited nipples in Tomb Raider 2 are worth at least fifteen Megan Fox cleavages, dry or dripping - but it’s the only even remotely enjoyable part of this movie I can think of. Is UP still playing? UP was good. Read the Topless Robot thing and go see UP. If it’s still playing. If you’re reading this months from now, Netflix it. If you’re reading this months from now but you’re some sorta Luddite who refuses to embrace the future, rent it from a physically existant brick-and-mortar video rental store. I’d add to the list of contingencies but that’s only getting us farther and farther away from nipples.
